Delamere cup is always held at the end of term 3 so we spend a lot of time preparing for it during the winter terms! Our class had Mrs Hermanson as a kaiako and we had loads of fun!!
Term 2 2016
Putaiao - Science
Term 2 was all about our living world, celebrating Papatuanuku and different life-cycles. By the end of the term we had some great inquiry questions we had explored, examples of life cycles, habitats and food chains.
Welcome back to kura! Room 7 has much smaller learners but just as enthusiastic! Keep checking for monthly updates on our learning and special events. This term we have swimming, a whole school camp, leadership enquiry and of course Te Reo Maori.
We are so lucky! Our first week was REALLY hot and on Friday Athena's nan came in with a special treat for us. ICE BLOCKS!
Going Batty! Hamana brought a NZ short-tailed bat to school! It was a special thing because not many people get to see them. We found out lots of information about them. Come and see the writing we did about our bat.

A Thank You surprise from Ella's Grandparents!
To Mrs Whyte and the Learners of Room 7. We would like to thank you for the wonderful Grandparents Day on Friday. We really enjoyed making up the story with Ella and the singing. The kapa haka group did a wonderful job and we were so very proud of all the learners. The manners of the whole school was so very pleasing. Thank you again Ella's Nana and Papa.
Pet Day - Friday 16th October 2015
We are getting ready for the New Zealand Shake Out. Room 7 know what to do if there is a big earthquake to Care for Ourselves. We know that if we are calm and covered we are much less likely to get hurt. We've had some korero about how earthquakes are caused and where some 'big ones' have hit in New Zealand. Check out the turtle safe song below its an easy way to remind all the people in our whanau of what they need to do in a big earthquake.
Duffy Dad's Day
We had a wonderful morning with our Dad's, Koros and even big brothers turning up to hang out with us at school.
We sit where we are most comfortable to learn best!
We're loving having our new class camera! Room 7 learners take responsibility for recording their learning every chance they get....... and lots of silly fun whanau moments!
Finnly knows the most important part of baking for others is to taste all the ingredients at every step! Great quality control!
Dylan in 'serious learning mode!'
Ella off to deliver her cake...with Caitlin 'recording' the special moments of the delivery.

Niki and Mia at the Opotiki Civil Ceremony on ANZAC DAY.
ANZAC Learning, Term 1, 2015
IN term 1 our focus was all about the Australia New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli 100 years ago. We had an enormous amount of learning going on! We shared our poem at assembly "in Flander's Field" which most of us learnt off by heart! Created our own mural and guard of honour, shared stories from our whanau about their involvement in the world wars/military. One highlight was making our own replica 75mm artillery shells in math, a fun and engaging measurement activity. We build a wall of learning, found Gallipoli on a map and learnt how to march with Mr Joblin.
Oliver, Izzach, Jayden, Finnly and Tawai demonstrate and form their own honour guard for our memorial.
Savannah, Dylan, Brooke, Sara, Mia and Niki paint the background for our window memorial.
Izzach, Tawai, Eli and Finnly turn the flower bed over in preparation for Anzac Poppies....... which unfortunately died during cyclone Pam.
